Matt black bathroom brassware: how to keep it looking new

← All guides

Matt black is popular because it makes a simple bathroom look decided. It is a coated finish, not a material that shrugs off any bathroom cleaner. Treat it like a good pan, not like a stainless sink.

A routine that works

Wipe the shower and the tap after the last use of the day. Dry the base where water sits. If scale appears, use a product the manufacturer allows, and do not scrub. Leaving gel on “to soak” is how the coating dulls.

Design it so the water has somewhere to go

A spout that drips onto a flat black shelf will leave a tide mark. We set wastes, trays and tap positions so water does not pool on the finish. Care is easier when the detail is right.

FAQ

Quick answers

Does matt black show limescale?+

Yes, as pale marks rather than as bright spots. East Lancashire water is not soft. A quick wipe after use matters more than a fierce cleaner once a month.

Can I use bleach or limescale gel?+

Not unless the brassware maker says so. Abrasive creams and strong acids mark coated finishes. Warm water and a soft cloth are the default.

Is black included in the package?+

Matte black, chrome and brushed brass are the included finishes on our luxury brassware choice. Other finishes are a stated upgrade.
