How much deposit should a bathroom company take?
The deposit question is really a trust question. You are letting someone take your only bathroom apart. The payment schedule should make that feel orderly, not like a gamble.
A sensible split
Something to book the job. Something when confirmed materials are ordered. Stage payments while the work is happening. A remaining balance at handover, when you can see the finished room. If a stranger wants the majority in cash before week one, keep your bathroom as it is and keep looking.
Design fee, clearly
We charge £250 for the design. If you book the installation, that fee is refunded. It is not a hidden deposit and it is not spent twice. The installation payments are separate and written down.

Quick answers
Is a deposit normal?+
A booking amount is normal. Paying the full balance before the room is finished is not something we would advise.
What is the £250 on your design process?+
The design fee is £250. It is not a deposit on the building work, and it is refunded if you go ahead with the installation. It pays for the design work, not for holding your bathroom hostage.
When is the rest paid?+
Stage payments should match progress: materials, work on site, and a balance when the room is finished and you have been shown how it works. The written terms are the version that counts.
