Paying for an accessible bathroom: VAT, grants and ordinary quotes

← All guides

Money and disability is where bathroom marketing gets slippery. A grant is not a discount code. VAT relief is not a sales line. A package price is not a diagnosis. They are three different systems, and mixing them up is how people feel misled.

Three paths

  • —A private installation, quoted like any other room, with accessible design built in
  • —A Disabled Facilities Grant, assessed and means-tested by the council
  • —0% VAT on qualifying adaptations, under HMRC rules, which we will help you understand

What we will say in the survey

Which of those paths you appear to be on, what we can install, and what we cannot decide for you. The room can still be calm and well made. The paperwork should be as clear as the shower.

FAQ

Quick answers

Do all accessible bathrooms qualify for 0% VAT?+

No. HMRC sets the conditions, usually around a qualifying condition and specific adaptations. We explain what may apply and help with the declaration where it is appropriate. We do not promise a relief you are not entitled to.

Can I combine a grant and my own money?+

Sometimes the council funds an essential specification and a homeowner chooses to pay the difference for a finish. That has to be agreed with the council, not assumed by the fitter.

What do your accessible bathrooms start from?+

Bath-to-shower conversions start from £3,999 with ProCore18™ included. Fuller accessible studios and bespoke accessible rooms are priced above that, after a survey.
