Bathroom installation, week by week

← All guides

A bathroom install feels chaotic if nobody has said what “day three” is for. It is a sequence. Strip, make sound, plumb, finish, cure, hand over.

A typical order

  • —Protect the route through the house
  • —Strip the old suite and get the waste off site
  • —Check the floor, the walls and anything the survey flagged
  • —First-fix pipework and electrics
  • —Board or tank, then panels or tiles
  • —Sanitaryware, brassware, ceiling and light
  • —Silicone, a clean-down, and a handover that includes when you can shower

What we need from you

The room emptied of bottles and towels, a decision that stays decided, and someone who can answer a question if a joist is not where the plan hoped. Changes after the panels are cut are how programmes slip.

FAQ

Quick answers

Will I have a toilet during the work?+

If it is your only bathroom, there will be periods with no toilet on that stack. We tell you which days. Some houses have a second WC. Do not assume.

How long is a panelled bathroom on site?+

Often around a working week for a straightforward room. Tiled bathrooms are commonly one to two weeks. Layout changes and drying times add days. Your programme is written for your room.

Can I stay in the house?+

Usually, yes. It is dusty and the water may be off at points. If you would rather be away for the noisiest day, we will say which day that is.
